Camping can be a lot of different things to a lot of people. Maybe it is a way to get the kids out of the house and get away inexpensively. As Tom notes, it might be a way to get out of the house and “do nothing” without it sounding like you are being lazy. It might just be a way for you to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. It might be a way to travel and explore.

For us, it is all of those things (though we only bring a dog since we don’t have kids) and more. We like to do lots of things along the way. We balance “doing nothing” with getting out and about. There are three main things that we like to do together to get out- hike, bike and kayak.

For each of those things, we have adopted methodologies and gear that make those easy things to do and simple to bring along in our sleek, efficient “everything fits into the Teardrop and Subaru” way. We’ll add things to this page that make it easy for you to understand whether these are methods that might work for you.
